If you’re a woman, or have a partner or friend who’s a smoker, you will find this of interest. According to the Lancet, If you stop smoking and you’re under 30, you could live for another 10 years. That’s right, The Lancet, the globally recognised body for medical research.
It’s as simple and as stark as that. I think that’s exciting. And unlike all ‘too good to be true offers’, this is something you can be in control of.
Imagine just a moment your 29 and tomorrow you turn 30. You’re excited about your life, career the possibility of starting a family. In short, life is open out in front of you and you’re excited. You go to sleep happy and content.
You wake tomorrow and instead of being 30, you’re 40. This isn’t a dream, it’s real. Whether you like it or not those 10 years of hopes, dreams and families have gone forever. Those 10 years have been wasted as they have been filled with nothing whatsoever.
How would you feel…?
This isn’t a story, this is the reality facing women today. In a report released by the Lancet and covered by so many media points over the last few days three key facts from an internationally peer reviewed study show:
- Smokers lose at least 10 years of lifespan
- Stopping before age 40 years and you’ll avoid more than 90% of the excess mortality e.g. lung cancer caused by continuing smoking.
- Stop before 30 years old avoids more than 97% of it.

As we’re currently in the Government backed ‘Stoptober’ campaign, these staggering finding prove yet again of why stopping smoking is a no-brainer.
As a professional hypnotherapist and NLP Master Practitioner, I’m bound to say that stopping smoking with hypnotherapy is easy. That doesn’t mean that what we do is simple however. Making the decision and choosing to stop smoking may indeed be about hard choices and I can’t deny that.
Hypnosis can be effective at helping you stop smoking as we show in our stop smoking pages (https://fixmymind.co.uk//treatments/stop-smoking/).
Instead of losing those 10 years, wouldn’t be nicer to know that you can live that life you want? You can choose. I think the choice and positive upsides are and easy choice to make. Wouldn’t it be great to live those years…
